Enchanting the Phoenix

An intricate carriage stopped at the front of the door and out stepped a lady with her face covered in veil but that only made the men more curious as to what kind of face was beneath it.

Her small steps carried her towards the festive room and knelt, waiting for the musicians to ready their instruments. When the hall finally noticed her presence, it fell into a soft murmur. And as the music started, she rose from her position, letting the veil fall towards the floor as it revealed her face.

Her performances are always tailored to someone to requests them and it’s also the reason why those who wish to have her perform have to reserve the date for a long time.

As she glided around the room, the small bell on her hair also added a tinkling sound. The lady’s voice sang of a golden phoenix who governed a magical mountain who did its best to protect every animal residing in it. Every time she spoke of the phoenix, her eyes would glance slightly towards him.

When she was finished, the crowd broke into praises of her. She knelt in front of him and bowed her small head. “This humble maiden wishes for your prosperity.”

Cao Pi had heard of her. It was suggested to him to hire her to perform, that her beauty and talents were so graceful and divine that one may mistake her for a goddess. However, he felt as though those words were merely that – words without meaning. He needn’t waste his time on it, he’d said. At the behest of others, however, he decided he would give it a chance.

The celebration was going along smoothly, and he sat with wine in hand while waiting for his final guest to arrive; and as a veiled woman came into view and others quieted down, it was most certainly her. It was when that veil dropped that his lips almost parted in shock.

She was exquisite, and she had captured his full attention. Cerulean eyes followed her movements with each step, and the sound of her voice had almost brought serenity. Those rumours spoke true; she was unlike any other he had met. He certainly would have felt like a fool had he not agreed to this after all.
Zihuan watched in silence for the duration of her performance, and once it was finished and all around praised, Cao Pi leaned forward in his seat, arms resting upon his lap as he looked her over. ❝What is your name?
