It was the year 194 in China during the Han dynasty era, the warlord Dong Zhuo had tried to seize power by replacing Emperor Ling, who had died a few years ago, with Emperor Xian, who was nothing more but a puppet meant to be used. Sun Jian was one of the brave warlords who fought in order to bring the treacherous Dong Zhuo to justice, but unfortunately, he had died two years ago, leaving his legacy in the hands of his son, Sun Ce, who was now rising an army.

Sun Jian had another child by the name of Sun Quan, after their father’s death he was placed under his elder brother’s care. Two years had gone by since the little Quan had begun to get used to his father’s absence, Ce tried to help him cope but also get him prepared for the world of war. Lately, Quan noticed his brother was very busy, he kept telling him they would eventually have to join some guy named Yuan Shu for the time being, despite the tiring tasks, today seemed to be a special day.

Ce had told his younger brother in advance that they were going to receive a somewhat special visit today, and that he’d be joining him. Apparently, the eldest son of Cao Cao, one of the Han warlords who fought against Dong Zhuo, was coming alongside his young brother, it was meant to be a friendly visit, and Ce would receive the two of them but he insisted in Quan joining them as well ─ The little cub is waiting quietly inside his brother’s headquarters, the visitors would come soon.

Sun Ce entered the area briefly, he said he’d wait until he was informed the guests had arrived.

Cao Pi was quite nervous, only seven years old and venturing with his elder brother to an unknown place - but because it was with him, he put on a brave face. He wasn’t entirely certain why Cao Ang was meeting with a member of the Sun family, but there must be a good reason, surely? They were staying for a little while, since the trip was so long.

The two finally arrived, and it wasn’t what Cao Pi was expecting, to put it simply. He wasn’t sure what he was actually expecting, but whatever it was, it wasn’t what he found. It was warmer than preferable, but it looked very nice, welcoming. Even the Sun family seemed friendly enough once they were greeted.

❝All right, it’s safe and sound here. Why don’t you spend time with someone a little closer to your age while we talk, hm?❞ Cao Ang encouraged him with a smile and gestured to the younger Sun, to which Cao Pi… uncomfortably smiled back and nodded.

He didn’t like the sound of it at all, but the elder brothers already left to talk. Cao Pi looked over at the other boy, and he didn’t know what his name was, but he knew he was a Sun. He was a few years older, at least, he was fairly taller than him anyway. Cao Pi was rather short for a child his age, you’re just a late bloomer, Ang would always tell him and pat him on the head.

❝Um,❞ he started, quite tempted to fidget with his sleeves. He had to behave. ❝…Hi.
